Advanced Numerical Acoustics for Lightweight Design

LMS International offers a 2 day Advanced seminar on numerical acoustics for Lightweight design. This seminar will take place on September 10-11 2013 and will offer both a theoretical background and numerical examples of state-of-the-art simulation capabilities for composite and porous materials. Two invited speakers will introduce the fundamentals of lightweight materials in mechanical engineering: Prof. Dazel of University of Le Mans, France will focus on porous materials, and Prof. Van Paepegem from Ghent University, Belgium will cover composites materials.

September 10th : Porous materials, by Prof. Olivier Dazel from Le Mans University in France.

• What are porous materials?
• Equivalent fluid models, from simple empirical models to the most advanced ones
• Biot Model for poroelastic materials
• Different formulations of the Biot theory and their variational formulations
• Different classes of numerical models for porous materials
• Industrial examples of vibro-acoustic applications of porous materials

September 11th : Composite materials, by Prof. Wim Van Paepegem from Ghent University in Belgium.

• Composite materials: typical constituents and properties
• Constitutive laws for linear elastic behavior of (anisotropic) composite materials
• Engineering choice of Finite Elements for composites modelling ((thick) shells, continuum shells, solids, ...)
• Typical damage modes and recommended modelling approaches
• Homogenization methods for composite materials
• Industrial examples of vibro-acoustic application of composite materials
