Research associate in Communication Acoustics (Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg Department for Medical Physics and Acoustics, Germany)

for a defined short-term research project. The position is available from July 1st until December 31st 2022 and is suitable for part-time work.

The position contributes to the project "Mobile smart neuro- sensor system for detection and documentation of epileptic seizures in everyday situations" funded by the Federal Ministry of Health. This project strives to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from epilepsy by developing cutting-edge technology.

Specifically, current deep learning approaches should be explored for analyzing neurophysiological data. Approaches such as deep feed-forward networks, recurrent and convolutional networks should be applied to the challenge of identifying epileptic seizures in data obtained with electroencephalography (EEG). The EEG data is collected from small electrode arrays carried behind the ear, which is challenging data but also bears great potential for future use.

We seek a highly motivated candidate with

  • a university degree (Diplom (Uni), Master's or PhD) in physics, computer science, electrical engineering, hearing technology and audiology or a related field
  • the ability to carry out independent research
  • profound experience with current deep learning toolkits (such as keras)
  • profound experience with GPU-based model training
  • experience with deep learning for analyzing biological signals, especially EEG signals, is a plus
