Obituary Professor Gerrit Vermeir

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Professor Gerrit Vermeir.

As a pioneer of building acoustics as a scientific discipline in Belgium, he devoted his entire academic career to his field of expertise with great passion, remaining committed to it until his final days. His knowledge and dedication were highly valued, not only in Belgium but far beyond our borders. With his infectious enthusiasm, Gerrit was actively involved in various international acoustical associations, technical committees and scientific journals.

Gerrit was a loyal member of the Belgian Acoustical Society (ABAV) for more than 40 years and dedicated himself in particular to the association for many years. He served successively as Treasurer for six years, Vice-President for six years and President for six years.

Above all, we will remember Gerrit as an exceptionally kind, helpful and dedicated person. We deeply admired the courage and unwavering determination with which he faced his long illness.

Grateful for the person Gerrit was and for his contributions to the science of building acoustics, we will continue to remember him with the greatest respect. His warm and gentle smile will be greatly missed.
