Women In Acoustics (Women+) acknowledges that attracting and retaining women in acoustics requires more than good intentions. As an initiative of the European Acoustics Association, Women+ is committed to supporting women and all underrepresented minorities in acoustics, recognizing that inclusion requires concrete and sustained action throughout education and professional careers.
Key actions include:
- Understanding inclusive practices in hiring, competitions, and promotions across different countries, to improve practices within the diferent communities.
- Providing mentoring and networking opportunities to foster professional growth.
- Increasing the visibility and recognition of contributions from women and minorities.
- Encouraging research on diversity and gender-related aspects in acoustics, from perception and cognition to academic and industry practices.
Through these actions, the initiative aims to make acoustics a field where everyone can thrive and lead.

Activities
The first EAA Women+ activities will take place during Forum Acusticum 2026 in Graz, including:
- an open kick-off meeting on Wednesday, 9 September 2026 at 14:20, for everyone interested in inclusion and equal opportunities in acoustics
- a joint “Women in Acoustics” networking event organised together with Women in Audio
Further planned activities include:
- structured sessions at EAA conferences
- mentoring and networking initiatives
- data collection on diversity in acoustics
- best-practice exchange among National Societies

EAA Women+ Initiative Kick-off Meeting at Forum Acusticum 2026
The EAA Women+ Initiative held its kick-off meeting during Forum Acusticum 2026 in Graz, Austria, bringing together members of the EAA community to discuss the objectives of the initiative and its future activities.
The meeting provided an opportunity for participants to exchange views, share experiences and contribute ideas for the development of Women+ within the EAA. The strong attendance and active participation reflected the interest of the community in initiatives supporting greater diversity, representation and inclusion in acoustics.
The discussion focused on four key pillars for the EAA Women+ Initiative: Strengthening Our Network, Visibility and Recognition, Inclusive Practices, and Research.
Participants actively contributed ideas across these four areas, and these contributions will help shape the future activities and priorities of EAA Women+.
